CATHERINE CHAN YOU FEE
Catherine Chan You Fee (b. London, 2001) is an emerging artist living and working in London. Chan works across various mediums and subjects, though often returns to figuration in painting as a common focus.
Born and raised in London, with a Chinese-Mauritian background, Chan examines this duality by transmitting her experiences of the world into her work - as portraiture, figuration, abstracted forms and dream-like places.
In 2024, Chan graduated from the University of the Arts London, Camberwell, with a degree in Fine Art Painting. She currently works in the creative sector alongside her studio practice. Her recent paintings have been heavily influenced by Miyoko Ito's visually striking colours, gradients and abstract forms, as well as, the great Impressionist master Monet. Influential contemporary artist Gerhard Richter's drawings have altered the direction of her own drawings on many occasions.
Chan feels particularly close to ideas of duality, intangibility and uncertainty, being equally as present as beauty, alignment and discovery within herself and the world around her.
